Issues

Since taking office, there has been significant progress in District 1. In my second term on council, I will continue to build on our successes:

Improving Daily Commutes

Since my time on council, we have seen significant improvements to our streets and roads. My goal is to improve our resident’s commute to work, school and play. In the past three years, we have seen significant improvements to our streets in District 1, including the Text Message Traffic Alerts. These alerts keep our residents informed on these developments in our area. We also have new and improved mass transit services, including the historic streetcar, that will make it fun and easy for all of us to get around town as well as long overdue projects like the Redd Rd. Median Landscaping project. I will continue to advocate for our fair share of funds for District 1 streets.

Improving our Quality of Life

In 2012, El Pasoans voted to invest in our future through several projects improving our quality of life. As your District 1 representative, we have 83 quality of life projects either completed or scheduled to be completed by 2018 and an additional 18 projects expected to be completed by 2019. This includes investments in projects for our Parks, Zoo, Library, the Children’s Museum and new Trailheads for District 1. In addition, the City added more police and fire academies and created a Crisis Intervention division to deal with mental illness responses.

Building Bridges

My background is as diverse as our border city. It’s allowed me to bring a unique perspective to the development of projects that touch on a variety of issues—international development, SxSw, Sister Cities, tourism and the El Paso Historic Streetcar project. These are all key projects brought to life through my ability to build bridges and forge unique coalitions. My experiences, profession and background will continue to make District 1 a priority in our city and the hub for many of El Paso’s jewels, UTEP, Kern Place, Rim Road, Mission Hills, the Upper Valley and our Franklin Mountains. I am proud to be your champion for District 1.
